Short answer
- Need a launch on a date you choose, at no cost? Product Hunt. You schedule the day yourself and launching is free; Product Hunt then decides whether your launch is featured on the homepage.
- Fine with a date Uneed picks for you? Join Uneed’s free waiting line now. Your day lands between 30 days and 5 months out, and you need a small upvote score on that day to stay listed.
- Want a Uneed launch on your own date? That is a paid option (Skip the waiting line), and paid launches are never declined and stay published.
- Most developer tools can use both: they are different audiences on different days, and neither rules out the other.
Uneed launch options today
Uneed changed its free waiting line twice this year, so this block is dated. Read on October 1, 2026 from Uneed’s own pages; we check it again by October 31, 2026. Prices in US dollars as shown by Uneed.
| Option | Launch date | Cost | After launch day |
|---|---|---|---|
Free waiting lineJoin the free waiting line (free): we assign your launch date automatically, between 30 days and 5 months out. | Assigned by Uneed, 30 days to 5 months out | Free | Stays listed with an upvote score of 10; do-follow link from 20. Below 10 it cannot rejoin the free line. |
Fast-trackFast-track ($14.99): we assign you a date around 2 weeks out. | Assigned by Uneed, about 14 days out | $14.99 | Always stays listed; do-follow link from an upvote score of 10. |
Skip the waiting lineSkip the waiting line ($29.99): pick the exact date you want. | Any date you pick | $29.99 | Always listed, do-follow link for life, no minimum score. |
RelaunchA Relaunch ($15) gives you a second launch day when something significant has changed. | A second launch day after a significant change | $15 | Always listed, do-follow link for life. |
| Product Hunt launch | Any day you schedule | Free | The product page stays; Product Hunt decides whether the launch is featured on the homepage. |
The upvote score counts each vote with the voter’s multiplier, so it can be higher than the number of people who voted. Uneed applies the 10/20 rule the day after your launch day.
What changed this year
The free queue grew past a 6 month wait, so it is closed to new products.
The free waiting line is open to new products again, with a launch date assigned automatically between 30 days and 5 months out
Products already in line, and Fast-tracks bought before today, keep the rule they joined under
At least 30 free launches go live each day, plus every paid launch. When many products wait, Uneed raises the daily number instead of making the wait longer; its changelog says up to 60, its FAQ up to 50.
When could you launch?
Pick the day you would choose an option. The planner shows the earliest and latest launch day each path allows. It runs in your browser and sends nothing anywhere.
Uneed’s dates are its own published ranges, not a promise for your product. Your actual day appears in your Uneed dashboard after you choose an option.
Which one first?
Three questions. The answer stays in your browser.

Waiting line vs daily ranking
This is the real difference. On Uneed you get a scheduled day and a published score rule; on Product Hunt you choose the day and compete on one daily board that Product Hunt curates.
Uneed: a queue with clear thresholds
- Free launches get a day from the waiting line; you know the rule before you start.
- Rolling leaderboards (7, 30 and 365 days) let a product keep climbing after launch day.
- The top 3 of the rankings appear in the weekly newsletter.
- Paid options buy certainty: your own date, and a listing that stays whatever the score.
Product Hunt: your day, one big board
- You schedule your launch day yourself, for free.
- Launches compete on the homepage leaderboard for top spots, including Product of the Day.
- Product Hunt features only products that are available now, and engagement is not the only factor.
- The launch day carries the weight, so plan who will visit and comment.
Rules in their own words
Quoted from the official pages in English, with what each rule means for your launch.
| Rule | Official wording | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Daily batch | Every day at 12:00 AM PST, a new batch of products goes live on the homepage: at least 30 free launches from the waiting line, plus every paid launch (Fast-track, Skip the waiting line and relaunches). | Your Uneed day is shared with at least 30 free launches and every paid one. |
| Submit, then choose | Submitting is not scheduling. | After submitting, open your dashboard and pick a launch option, or nothing happens. |
| Full calendar | If every day of the next 5 months is already full, the free option says so and only the paid options remain until days free up. | If the next five months are full, the free line is not offered until days free up. |
| Free moderation | Free submissions go through moderation and can be declined, most often because they fall into a category we already receive dozens of every week. | A free submission can be declined, mostly in crowded categories. |
| Paid launches | Paid launches are never declined. | Paying removes the moderation risk. |
| Below the threshold | Below 10, it goes back to your dashboard and can't join the free line again | A free launch under a score of 10 cannot go back into the free line. |
| Rolling rankings | The key feature of these rankings is that they are rolling (sliding windows), meaning they constantly update based on recent activity rather than fixed calendar periods. | Votes after launch day still move you on the weekly, monthly and yearly boards. |
| Vote checks | Votes coming from batches of accounts created at once, or from a single IP address, get flagged and removed | Bought or batch votes disappear, so the final ranking can differ from what you saw live. |
| No bought votes | Don't buy votes: we detect it, the votes get removed, and repeat offenders get banned. | Repeat offenders are banned. |
| Newsletter | The 3 best performing products in our rankings are featured in our weekly newsletter, reaching our community of 26,000+ subscribers. | A top-3 ranking brings an extra mention after the launch. |
| Available now | We only feature products that are currently available. | Launch on Product Hunt when people can use the product. |
| Featuring | not every product can be featured on the homepage | Scheduling a launch does not guarantee a homepage spot. |
| Daily board | Others in the community can upvote, comment, and share those products as they compete on the homepage leaderboard for top spots, including Product of the Day. | Launches compete for the day’s top spots. |
| Start time | 12:01 am Pacific Time is the best time to launch for makers that are planning ahead and don't have limitations or other opportunities. | 12:01 am Pacific Time gives you the full day if you can plan for it. |
| Promotion | you cannot ask people directly to upvote your product. Instead, ask them to visit and comment. | Share your launch, but invite people to visit and comment, never to upvote. |
| Six-month gap | we ask Makers to wait at least six months between posts for the same product or from the same company. | Wait at least six months before posting the same product again. |
Using both
- Put the two launches on different days so you can answer every comment on each.
- Join Uneed’s free line early: it costs nothing and the wait runs while you prepare Product Hunt.
- Reuse your tagline, screenshots and first comment, but keep the story current for each launch day.
- Never ask for upvotes on either platform; ask people to look and tell you what they think.
Where LaunchRepo fits
LaunchRepo turns your repository into a launch kit that your own coding agent uses in your own Chrome: listing texts, a launch plan with dates and a record of where you stand on each platform.
Your agent prepares the Uneed and Product Hunt listings and, depending on the permission you set once during onboarding, sends them itself or asks you first. LaunchRepo does not vote or buy launch options.

FAQ
- Is Uneed free?
- Submitting and the waiting line are free. A free launch gets a date Uneed assigns, between 30 days and 5 months out, and needs an upvote score of 10 on launch day to stay published. Fast-track and Skip the waiting line are paid.
- Is Uneed a good Product Hunt alternative?
- It is a good addition. Uneed gives you a scheduled day and rolling rankings; Product Hunt gives you a free day of your choice on a large daily board. Many makers use both on different days.
- Can I launch on Uneed and Product Hunt on the same day?
- Nothing in either rule set forbids it, but separate days are easier: you can be present for each launch and reuse what you learned on the first one.
- What happens if my free Uneed launch gets fewer than 10 upvotes?
- The product goes back to your dashboard and cannot join the free line again. To launch it on Uneed you then use Fast-track or Skip the waiting line.
- Do I get a backlink?
- On Uneed, a free launch keeps a do-follow link from an upvote score of 20, Fast-track from 10, and Skip the waiting line and relaunches always. The Product Hunt pages quoted here say nothing about links.
- Why is this page dated?
- Uneed closed its free waiting line in August and reopened it in September with new rules. We read the rules on the check day shown above and recheck them about every 30 days.
Prepare both launches with your own agent
LaunchRepo gives your coding agent the launch kit for Uneed, Product Hunt and other platforms, and you decide once whether it sends final submissions itself or asks you first. One payment, no subscription.
