Check your launch images against platform size specs

Choose an image and this page tells you, for fifteen launch assets on nine platforms, whether the size, shape, file size and format fit. The image never leaves your browser. Every rule links to the platform’s own documentation.

Check an image

Choose or drop one image. You get its real pixel size, format and file size, and a verdict for each asset.

The image is read by your browser only. It is not uploaded, stored or sent anywhere.

All sizes at a glance

One source image for many places

  • Design one 1200 × 630 px link preview. It meets Meta’s recommended size and LinkedIn’s minimum, and it is 1.91:1 for both.
  • For GitHub, export the same design at 1280 × 640 px and keep the file under 1 MB. JPEG usually gets there; a large PNG often does not.
  • Store tiles are exact sizes: Chrome Web Store 440 × 280 and 1400 × 560, Google Play 1024 × 500. Design them separately: cropping a 1.91:1 design to these shapes cuts off part of it.
  • Keep a square logo at 512 × 512 px as a 32-bit PNG. It covers the Google Play icon, and scaled down it gives the Product Hunt thumbnail and a favicon larger than 48 × 48.
  • Screenshots for the App Store come from the simulator or device at the listed resolution. Resizing a desktop screenshot rarely lands on an accepted size.

How the check stays on your device

  • The file is read with the browser’s File API. The page reads the first bytes to find the real format, so a PNG renamed to .jpg is still reported as PNG.
  • The pixel size comes from createImageBitmap, which decodes the image in memory. The preview uses a temporary blob: address that only exists in this tab and is released (URL.revokeObjectURL) when you check another image or leave the page.
  • There is no upload form and no network request with your image. The page’s Content Security Policy only allows connections to this site and our analytics, and the checker sends nothing to either.

What the check cannot see

  • Whether text is readable at thumbnail size, or sits in an area a platform crops. Look at the image at half size before uploading.
  • Color profile and compression quality. Export in sRGB; Google Play names sRGB for its icon, and it is the safe default everywhere else.
  • Rotation from a camera’s EXIF data. The browser applies it when decoding, while some platforms may not.
  • Whether the content follows each platform’s content policy. That is reviewed by people and systems after upload.
  • Rules that change after our check date. Each row links to the page we read; when in doubt, the platform’s page wins.

FAQ

What size should an Open Graph image be?
Meta recommends at least 1200 × 630 px for the best display on high-resolution screens, at an aspect ratio as close to 1.91:1 as possible, and a file no larger than 8 MB. The minimum it accepts is 200 × 200 px. LinkedIn asks for at least 1200 × 627 px, so 1200 × 630 works for both.
What size are Product Hunt thumbnail and gallery images?
Product Hunt recommends a square thumbnail of 240 × 240 px and gallery images of 1270 × 760 px, and all images must be under 3 MB. At least two gallery images are needed before the gallery shows on your post.
What image sizes does the Chrome Web Store need?
A 128 × 128 PNG icon in the extension package, at least one screenshot of 1280 × 800 or 640 × 400 px, and a small promo tile of 440 × 280 px. A 1400 × 560 marquee tile is optional.
Is my image uploaded when I check it?
No. The file is read and decoded by your browser on your device. The page has no upload endpoint, and the temporary preview address is released as soon as you check another image or leave.
Why does the checker say “works, not ideal”?
The image meets everything the platform requires but misses a recommendation, for example a link preview below 1200 × 630 px or a thumbnail that is square but smaller than 240 × 240 px. It will upload; it may look softer or be cropped.
