Build your links
Every included row becomes one link. Rows without a source name are skipped until you fill them in.
Everything happens in this browser. The builder saves nothing, sends nothing and never puts your URL into the address bar.
Your links
How to name the values
Four parameters are enough for a launch. Keep each value short, lowercase and identical on every link where it means the same thing.
| Parameter | Use it for | Example |
|---|---|---|
utm_source | The site or list that shows your link. One value per platform. | producthunt |
utm_medium | The kind of link: referral for listings and posts, social for social networks, email for newsletters. | referral |
utm_campaign | The launch as a whole. Same value on every link. | launch-2026-10 |
utm_content | Which link on that platform, when there is more than one. | first-comment |
| Rule | Original wording | What the builder does |
|---|---|---|
| Required trio | When you add parameters to a URL, you should always use utm_source , utm_medium , and utm_campaign . | A link is only built when source, medium and campaign are all set. |
| Case | Parameter values are case sensitive, e.g. utm_source=google is different from utm_source=Google . | Lowercase is switched on by default, so one platform stays one row. |
| Referral channel | Referral Medium is one of ("referral", "app", or "link") | Listings and posts use referral. |
| Email channel | Email Source = email|e-mail|e_mail|e mail OR Medium = email|e-mail|e_mail|e mail | Newsletters use email. |
| Organic Social channel | Organic Social Source matches a regex list of social sites OR Medium is one of (“social”, “social-network”, “social-media”, “sm”, “social network”, “social media”) | Social posts use social. |
| Report in GA4 | You can view Session source/medium , Session medium , Session source , and Session campaign in the Acquisition > Traffic acquisition report. | Where to look after launch day. |
| Report in Rybbit | UTM Parameters View campaign data: utm_campaign, utm_source, utm_medium, utm_term, utm_content. | The same five fields, filterable on the main dashboard. |
| The #anchor | the fragment identifier is separated from the rest of the URI prior to a dereference, and thus the identifying information within the fragment itself is dereferenced solely by the user agent, regardless of the URI scheme. | Parameters always go before the #, never after it. |
Where to read the results
Open one of your links in a private window first and check that the visit shows up with the right source. Then, after launch day:
Google Analytics 4
- Reports → Acquisition → Traffic acquisition, then switch the first column to Session source / medium.
- Add a filter on Session campaign = your campaign name to see only the launch.
- The medium decides the default channel: referral lands in Referral, email in Email, social in Organic Social.
Rybbit
- On the main dashboard, the UTM parameters panel lists campaign, source, medium, term and content.
- Use the filter for UTM parameters to narrow the whole dashboard to one campaign or source; it combines with the referrer filter.
- Save the filter as a segment if you compare several launches.
How launchrepo.dev reads these links
- This site keeps the first set of UTM values a visitor arrives with for 30 days in that visitor’s browser, and passes it along when they open checkout. A purchase a week after the launch can still be matched to the listing that brought the visitor.
- It only keeps letters, digits, dots, underscores and hyphens, up to 100 characters, and turns spaces into hyphens. That is why the builder warns about other characters.
Five mistakes that split your numbers
- Mixed case: ProductHunt, producthunt and Product-Hunt become three sources.
- A different campaign name on every platform, so the launch never shows up as one line.
- Tagging links between pages of your own site. Your visitors then appear to come from your own site instead of the launch.
- Putting the parameters after the #anchor. The part after # stays in the browser and is not sent with the request; the builder always puts the parameters before it.
- Never opening the published link. Some forms trim query strings; check once that the parameters survived.
What the builder does not do
- It does not shorten links and does not create redirects.
- It does not add utm_term (meant for paid keywords) or utm_id; add them by hand if you need them.
- It cannot tell whether a platform keeps the query string. Open the live listing and check.
- It does not count clicks. Your analytics does that once visitors arrive.

Frequently asked questions
- Which UTM parameters do I need for a launch?
- utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign on every link, plus utm_content when one platform gets more than one link. Google Analytics asks for the first three on every tagged URL.
- What should utm_medium be for Product Hunt or a directory?
- referral. In Google Analytics 4 the medium referral puts the visit into the Referral channel. Use social for social networks and email for newsletters.
- Does my existing query string or #anchor survive?
- Yes. The builder keeps every existing parameter exactly as it was, replaces only old utm_ values, and places the new parameters before the #anchor.
- Why is javascript: or data: refused?
- A launch link must open a web page. Only http:// and https:// are accepted, and usernames or passwords in the URL are refused too.
- Do UTM parameters hurt SEO?
- They are for links you place on other sites and in emails. Do not use them on links inside your own site, and keep a canonical tag on your landing page so search engines treat the tagged URLs as the same page.
- Is my URL stored or tracked?
- No. The builder runs in your browser, saves nothing and sends nothing. Reloading the page starts it fresh.
Know which listings are live
Tagged links show where visitors come from. LaunchRepo’s tracker shows which submissions are live, pending or waiting for you, so every listing gets its link at the right time.
