Why directory submissions are worth automating

Hello guys, my name is Aleks, and I'm going to show you how you can turn your local AI agent into a directory submission machine. I've been building and publishing for more than a year, and I hate submitting all of my little projects to directories and launch platforms. It just annoys me to input the same form over and over again. The issue is that directories and launch platforms can offer a real benefit. Besides getting free backlinks and increasing your domain rating, you also get new eyeballs and potential customers. So I have vowed to solve this issue by developing a project for it.

What LaunchRepo is

LaunchRepo is a GitHub repo which you clone locally and which allows your agent to submit your product to over 340 directories. For every directory there is a custom playbook which tells your agent exactly who this directory is for, if it's free, if it needs a badge and how to submit the product.

The example product: VibeWhisper

In this video, I'm going to show you how I'm going to start automated marketing for one of my projects, VibeWhisper. VibeWhisper is something I developed, I think, three or four months ago. It's a really cool tool which allows you to dictate and run the transcription locally or with an OpenAI API key. It's really cool for vibe coding, so go and check it out. The issue is, even though it's a cool product, nobody knows it exists, and I think I've made like 50 bucks from it. So we're going to change it.

The onboarding email

As soon as you get access to the GitHub repo, you're also getting an onboarding email. I've skipped the steps in the onboarding email because they take around 30 minutes and they are just boring onboarding work. But don't worry, everything is explained in the email and you can start right with me.

Local dashboard: brief, identity, permissions

Now we are looking at my own local dashboard. As you can see, it's running on my localhost, and I went ahead and created the product VibeWhisper. We can see we have a product brief, which is important for agents so that they know what we are selling, who we are selling to, what claims we can make, and what we should not make. Next, we have the identity tab. This is basically: who is the maker, how should the agents present you, and what are notable things about you and your work. Next up is the permission. What do we want to do? What is your agent allowed to do on itself? And when should it ask you for permission? Basically, I told my agent: do whatever you have to do to get me online, create new accounts, verify the emails, sign me up. I don't care. I just don't want to pay, and I want to be listed in as many directories as possible. Since some of those directories require you to put a badge on your website, I've also went ahead and told Claude exactly where it can find my actual project and how it can build and deploy it to add the badges to it.

First batch selection in Claude

Now, I've run ahead and I did most of the onboarding steps. Now, the next step which is open is to do the first batch selection. Claude actually already did this, but I said: “Oh, don’t start yet, please. I have to record this video.” So now what we're going to do is we're going to switch over to Claude, and we see Claude is going through the list, the playbook list. It is searching for the best directories and – excuse me, it was in German before. It is actually going to AlternativeTo, SaaSHub, Uneed, DevHunt and Productivity Directory.

The agent submits in Chrome

So now let's see if we can actually see it working. Yes, it's working. Oh, wonderful. It navigated to AlternativeTo, and it's using the Chrome remote debugging tool. Very important: don't use the Chrome extension. It needs to use the debugging tool, and you need to enable the auto-connect flag. But everything about that is included in the setup. So don't even worry about it.

Handoff: a login only you can do

And now it saw: oh, wait, for AlternativeTo there is already an account, but it was not created with the Google sign-in, and I don't have the credentials for it. Yeah, that's up to me. I forgot that I already have an account, and I did not tell it. So what it does: it just said, hey, the human needs to give input here, and now we will go ahead and go on to the next account. Oh, you can see it. Wonderful. We are not a bot. This is definitely not a bot controlling my PC.

Time-lapse

And I think I'm just going to start a little time-lapse so you can see what it actually looks like. [Time-lapse of the agent at work, no narration]

Recap and the badges in our footer

LaunchRepo enables you to launch your project in over 340 directories without doing the manual work. You have to set it up once – yep, five minutes about your product – so that Claude or Codex or Gemini or whatever local AI agent you are using understands what your product is about. And if you're asking yourself: oh, what does it look like if I leave LaunchRepo running for four hours? You can just scroll down to the landing page footer of LaunchRepo itself. And I will personally assure you: none of these badges was placed there by me. I don't even know half of those. I didn't even know half of those directories existed. And now LaunchRepo is listed on them. So if you have any more questions, please feel free to let me know, either via X, x.com/AleksDoesCode, or via the email in the LaunchRepo imprint. Happy to have you on board soon and to enable you to launch your product faster and further.
