European startup databases

European startup directories: 10 databases, Germany first

Investors, programs, journalists and future hires look up young companies in a handful of startup databases. Most are tied to a country or region, and each has its own idea of who counts as a startup. This page compares ten public databases from Germany to the Nordics by who gets in, how you get in and what it costs, and filters them for your company.

Short answer

  1. In Germany, create a free Startbase profile and, in Berlin or Munich, add your company to the city’s startup map. startupdetector lists new corporations on its own once they are in the commercial register.
  2. Across Europe, claim or add your company on Dealroom first. Startup Map Berlin, Techleap Finder in the Netherlands and the French Tech data run on Dealroom, so one complete profile pays off several times.
  3. Add the free EU-Startups listing for your country. In the Nordics, a free profile on The Hub helps when you hire; in Catalonia, the government’s startup hub has its own criteria.
  4. Almost all of this is free. What you need is a registered company, a website on your own domain and the same company facts everywhere.

Startup databases in Germany

Four of the ten are German. They work differently: one you fill in yourself, one finds you, two are city portals.

Startbase: your own profile

Free account, then a company profile that people can filter by state, industry, stage and business model. Startbase does not check content before it is published, so the accuracy is up to you.

startupdetector: found for you

startupdetector scans every new entry in the commercial register, and its analysts add corporations up to ten years old that build their own product. No form; you appear about a week after registration.

City portals: Berlin and Munich

Startup Map Berlin covers Berlin-Brandenburg and runs on Dealroom; Munich Startup has its own register with profiles, jobs and co-founder search.

Europe-wide entries count too

German companies also appear in Dealroom and in the Germany category of EU-Startups, which held 4,566 listings on the check date.

Which ones fit your company?

One Dealroom profile, several maps

Startup Map Berlin, Techleap Finder and the French Tech ecosystem data are powered by Dealroom. That makes your Dealroom profile the most useful single entry on this page.

  1. Sign up with an email address on your company’s domain; it is how Dealroom confirms that you belong to the company.
  2. Search for your company. If a profile exists, claim it and edit it; if not, add your entity with name, website and LinkedIn page.
  3. Fill in launch year, logo, description, team and funding. Fields that Dealroom’s data team maintains can be changed by request.
  4. Then open the map of your city or country and check how your company appears there.

Where LaunchRepo fits

LaunchRepo runs inside your coding agent. The agent submits your product’s website to a large catalog of directories and launch platforms and keeps a tracker that separates live listings from pending ones.

Steps that only your company can do, such as confirming a company email or entering register details, stay with you. The company facts you prepare here are exactly what the agent reuses for every product you launch.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best startup database in Germany?
There is not one: Startbase for a free profile you manage yourself, startupdetector, which lists new corporations from the commercial register on its own, and the city portals for Berlin and Munich. Dealroom and EU-Startups cover Germany as part of Europe.
Are European startup databases free to join?
Most are. Startbase, Dealroom, EU-Startups and the Dealroom-powered maps say so on their pages. startupdetector costs founders nothing but sells data access, and The Hub charges for job posts, not for the profile.
Can a startup from outside Europe be listed?
Dealroom covers companies worldwide. The other nine are tied to a country or region: EU-Startups to 30 European countries, The Hub to the Nordics, the city and national maps to their area.
Do I need a registered company?
For most of them, yes. startupdetector lists only corporations, The Hub requires a legally registered business in the Nordics, and Catalonia asks for a company VAT number. The filter above shows what fits your situation.
How is this different from a list of free startup directories?
These databases describe your company for investors, programs, press and job seekers, and most depend on where you are registered. Launch directories present a product to users worldwide.
Does LaunchRepo add my company to these databases?
LaunchRepo’s agent submits your product website to directories and launch platforms from its catalog and tracks each one. Verification that only your company can provide, such as a company email or register details, stays with you.

Let your agent handle the directories

One purchase, your coding agent, every product you build: LaunchRepo submits your website to directories and launch platforms while you build the company.
