Launch directory

A website that lists new products around a launch day and keeps the listing as a permanent page.

Definition

A launch directory is a website whose main feature is publishing new products on or around a launch day. Product Hunt, Uneed and TinyLaunch are examples with public field guides on this site. The listing usually needs a maker account, a tagline, a description, screenshots and a date; after the launch day the page stays online as a permanent entry with a link to the product.

The category overlaps with product launch platforms — the difference is emphasis. A launch directory is first a list; the launch day is how you get on it. A launch platform is first an event with ranking or votes; the permanent page is a side effect.

Why it matters for a directory launch

Launch directories are the largest group in the LaunchRepo catalog (104 of 346 entries) and the natural first wave for a new product: the requirements are similar, the copy can be reused and the outcome is a dated public page. They are also where most of the waiting happens — free routes queue submissions for review, so a submitted listing is not a live one.

How LaunchRepo handles it

Each launch directory in the catalog has a playbook describing what to prepare, the route, known blockers and what counts as confirmation. The agent reads the playbook, fills the form from product.json in your own Chrome, records the observed result as submitted, queued, scheduled or live and returns on the follow-up date. The earliest launch date in product.json prevents scheduling before you are ready.
